Perri (1957)

January 3rd, 2009 by Anne Richardson · No Comments · 1950's, Oregon film, Oregon film new definition

They all laughed when I sat down to watch a full length feature film starring a squirrel. But see Perri for yourself. Whatever you thought a film about a squirrel was going to be about, I bet it didn’t include a live action dream sequence.

That’s right, Felix Salten and Ralph Wright show you what squirrels dream about.

Perri features summer, fall, winter, spring, hawks, bobcats, porcupines, weasels, a forest fire, a love affair, many tragic losses, lots of predation, and close calls for the lead squirrel. Sit down with the kids to watch Perri, and there’s not much else you need to tell them to prepare them for life.

This is the rare film I recommend even though, on some level,  it totally stupefies me.

Because Perri was co-written and co-directed by Ralph Wright, I claim it as an Oregon film.
