Kristen Wiig has optioned Portland author Monica Drake’s first novel, Clown Girl. Wiig follows in the footsteps of countless other frustrated Hollywood actresses (Katherine Hepburn among them) who were impatient with the whole “waiting for the phone to ring” aspect of their profession.
Why Clown Girl? The Publishers Weekly review reveals what attracted Wiig: “Nita emerges as a fully-realized character, bearing witness to a lot of the emotionally ridiculous and just a hint of the sublime.”
For now, Portlanders can study with Monica Drake at PNCA. Is Clown Girl the first Hollywood option for her publisher, Hawthorne Books? Anybody know?
