Mayor Sam Adams added to his collection of original portraits of Portland filmmakers last week, unveiling a brand new painting of Todd Haynes by Jasper Marks.

City Hall custodians grumbled about the amount of work they face – Portland’s active film scene means the entire wall will soon be filled. The Mayor did not announce whether Marks, who moonlights in another profession under the name Steven Cohn, would be asked to paint the entire series. Some people believe Arnold Pander may be approached to help out.

Movie star, author (four books), professional crank, and adept self deprecator, Bruce Campbell put his money where his mouth was when he made My Name Is Bruce in his own Southern Oregon backyard.

If you go to Hollywood, you’ve already sold out. By the sheer act of going there, you’re saying, ‘I need to go there because this is the only way I can get my movie made.’ Baloney! Indiana’s the place to make your movie. Pontiac, Michigan. Whatever.

My Name Is Bruce stars Bruce “The Chin” Campbell in a fight to the death against evil, tofu, and his own slow learning curve. Campbell also directed. Mike Richardson, of Dark Horse Comics, produced.

From a Portland Mercury interview with Campbell: “Most of it was filmed on my property. Now I have a Western town that I can’t get rid of. It’s so big I can’t take it down. It confuses the hell out of delivery people—some guy comes up and he’s like, ‘I didn’t know there was a town of Gold Lick out here!’ My wife and I say, ‘Let’s meet out by the tavern!’ or ‘I’ll meet you in the livery!’ It’s a great conversation piece.”
