Great post. I love the idea of people who formed Portland’s pioneering experimental film scene of the late ’90s and early 2000s like Vanessa Renwick, Miranda July and Matt McCormick getting their due as mature, talented artists.

What a lovely post! All of these women left lasting impressions on me and in all of their varied ways really personify Portland creative culture at it’s best and most authentic.

It is fantastic to see these talented women succeed! I was there, as Gaffer for Miranda and Vanessa, and on the Get Up video. I still live in Portland and work with lighting in film and video today. I agree, women mentors in this industry are thin. It can be incredibly discouraging. Over the years, Miranda’s and Vanessa’s ambitions, visions and unique voices always inspired me.
