I went to Grant High School, so I will never forget Mr. Holland’s Opus. I even had a very inspiring music teacher, Eugene Kaza.

I believe some of the music classroom interiors were shot at Marylhurst University. I know they didn’t use the Grant High band room for those interior scenes.

Almost none of the Timberline Lodge exterior footage you see in The Shining was shot on Mt. Hood. Kubrick built a replica in England.

I haven’t gotten yet to the year Mr. Holland’s Opus was made. I am just now leaving 1993 and heading into 1994.

But I’ll get there!

Don’t forget “World War III,” one of Rock Hudson’s last films, albeit a “Made For TV” one. I was a PA on the Second Unit crew, that shot up at Timberline Lodge. Produced by Finnigan & Associates. Notable in that the director, Boris Sagal, (father of Katy and husband to “Snow White’s” roto-double Marge Champion), walked into the tail rotor of a Bell helicopter. Needless to say, he did not survive…

Sweeney and Martin Sheen. “Management” starring Jennifer Aniston, Steve Zahn and Woody Harrelson. “My Own Private Idaho” starring Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix. “Paranoid Park,”"Elephant,” and “Mala Noche” by Portland filmmaker Gus Van Sant. “Untraceable” starring Diane Lane. The original “Twilight” was shot around Vancouver WA and Portland. “Extraordinary Measures” starring Brendan Fraser, Harrison Ford and Keri Russel. “Ring 2″ and parts of the original were shot in Astoria. “Follow the Prophet” and “Feast of Love.” “Gone” recently finished up starring Amanda Seyfried. Some scenes in “He’s Just Not that Into You.” “Meeks Cutoff,” Wendy and Lucy” and “Old Joy” by filmmaker Kelly Reichardt. “Men of Honor” starring Robert De Niro, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Charlize Theron. “The Postman” starring and directed by Kevin Costner. Currently “Leverage” (starting the second season to current), “Portlandia” starring SNL Fred Armisen and “Grimm” are currently in production. I know there’s more, but those are the only ones I can think of right now.

Hi, Anne.
I just discovered your website and few made in Oregon movies came to mind. Parts of “The Grand Tour” was filmed in, and around Oakland, OR. It’s about a meteor that destroys a small town and it has time travelers. I watched part of “Fire in the Sky” being filmed in Douglas County, including Oakland, OR. “Short Circuit” was partly shot in Astoria. I also watched parts of the movie “Dead by Sunset” filmed in Portland. I also interviewed two of the young cast members (brothers).

Claire of the Moon was an interesting film about lesbian lovers. It was directed by Nicole Conn and starred Trish Todd and Karen Trumbo. It had a Portland cast and crew and Michael Harrison did a beautiful musical soundtrack. It became a cult classic and should be included here as an Oregon film.
